Biography:
Val was formerly the Director of the St MartinŐs College Lancaster Centre
for the Development of Learning & Teaching (CDLT) a post which
she held from February 2000 until her retirement on 31st August 2004.
Her background is in Radiography and the Imaging Sciences where she
developed considerable experience and expertise in the field of distance
learning. She was awarded a Churchill Travelling Fellowship in the
late 1980s and spent several months in the USA and Canada investigating
distance-learning use in various Health Sciences courses.
Val wrote the original HENRE application
to the EU and has been involved as HENRE project leader
and was sub group 2 co-ordinator until March 2004. Although
retired from St MartinŐs College she is still involved
in HENRE as Chair of the HENRE management group and takes
a lively and hands-on interest in radiography education.
She is presently employed by the UK Society and College
of Radiographers (SCOR) in the development and writing
of professional policy documents.

HENRE Project Co-ordinator
Biography:
Mel is a qualified radiographer and works at the Westmorland General
Hospital in Kendal, Cumbria. Prior to radiography she ran her own business
for many years marketing and providing teaching resources for physical
education to teachers throughout the UK. She has a degree in psychology
from Lancaster University.
As co-ordinator Mel oversees the HENRE
workplan and HENRE website. She is responsible for submitting
subgroup reports to the European Commission including
the application for HENRE 2 the continuation and
development of the network, and is the HENRE link with
the Tuning project.

HENRE Sub Group Co-ordinator for
the Initial Radiography Education & Training Contact
Biography:
Carena trained as a radiographer at the Liverpool
School of Radiography, UK qualifying in 1975. She spent
17 years as a clinical radiographer, during this time her
specialist field was trauma and orthopaedic radiography.
In 1992 she joined the School of Radiography at Salford
University, Manchester, UK as a member of the teaching
team. During her time at Salford Carena has led a number
of initiatives which include the development of the clinical
education component of the BSc (hons) in Diagnostic Radiography,
the management of a UK Higher Education funded project
associated with the development of key skills and competencies
through multi-professional education and portfolio building.
She works closely with other professions within the School
of Health Care Professions and Nursing and in August 2005,
she took on the role of School Strategic Lead for Inter-professional
Collaboration and Partnerships. In this role she will be
promoting the development of Inter-professional learning
and working across a range of professions.
Carena took over the role of co-coordinator
of Sub-group one in January 2005, the previous co-coordinator
was Jonathon McConnell from St Martins College, Lancaster
UK.

HENRE Sub Group Co-ordinator for
the Development of Learning and Teaching
Biography:
Jos has been radiographer for many years and since many years employed
by Fontys, Hogescholen Eindhoven. www.fontys.nl/english/
The MBRT (Medical Imaging and Radiation
Oncology) itself offers a range of undergraduate and
postgraduate courses e.g. in CT, MRI, Ultrasound and
Digital Techniques. He also teaches on the undergraduate
radiography course especially the digital subjects concerning
medical imaging radiology. Since 1996 MBRT is involved
in the Erasmus-group. One of the aims is student-exchange.
The main reason to participate in this thematic network
is co-operation with foreign partners. Subgroup 2 deals
with distance learning and the use of virtual learning
environments. MBRT does have experiences in this field
of provision of education for many years. He recently
presented the findings and outcomings of the Sub group
2 of HENRE at ECR 2005

HENRE Sub Group Co-ordinator for
Development of Continuing Professional Development
CPD Officer for the UK Society and College of Radiographers
Biography:
Sean Kelly is the CPD Officer for the UK Society
and College of Radiographers and is currently developing
a scheme to enable radiographers in the UK to have their
CPD accredited by their professional body. He is particularly
interested in the international radiography Ôscene' and
before entering radiography took a degree in modern languages
at the University of Durham, UK. His main interest in HENRE
is in the potential to develop new links between radiographers
across Europe and to use these to produce learning and
CPD materials that are accessible to radiographers practicing
everywhere, taking account of the many constraints radiographers
face regarding time, access and funding.
